Lisbeth--
That is great article! You didn't even have to point out the superficiality Virginia's article; it was very obvious anyway :)
I whole-heartedly agree with you and look forward to your next article!
Thanks!

Greetings from the west coast and thanks for a fantastic response to the NYT article. While I'm always glad to see CrossFit get more publicity, I don't understand Heffernan's need to write about CrossFit and always include some kind of potshot or thinly veiled insult.

The physical benefits of CrossFit are obvious. I hope one day Heffernan will understand and write about the enormous mental benefits as well. The mental toughness that comes from working at, and then exceeding, your physical limits.

As a Marshal my opportunity to have that moment is every minute, wether im running thru a house with my team or shopping with my daughters.People like the nyt writer are the ones we find dead with a phone in their hand because they expect people like us to save them yet we are ridiculed as paranoid for preparing.Since i started xfit a year ago ive had many moments and my confidence and preparedness from xfit brought me home.

Did you read the same article I did? I feel like it was pretty positive and didn't deserve that kind of acerbic response. Her actual line was, "Even if handstand pushups have no place in your life, there’s something eye-opening and even inspiring about the site’s aggressive ambitions for the human body ... This is exercise not for vanity or for longevity but for an imagined moment of heroism that may never come."

Lis

Overall, "God's Workout" was an uneven piece, with some positive comments about CF but also some misleading comments. As for our piece being an acerbic response, you are, of course, free to interpret it that way. But then, perhaps, you might want to reread the second half of Heffernan's article and pull out the acid paper -- it's going to test positive too . . .

Kath

InCREDIBLE response. Couldn't've said it better. Thank you, gonna link it from my site if ya don't mind! lol

Way to go Lis!

My thoughts (if anyone cares): I interpreted Heffernans piece as more of an attack on fitness in general more than Crossfit itself.

Don't get me wrong though, it certainly is chock full of Crossfit jabs, but she just plain ole seems to be against exercise.

2 cents deposited.

Awesome!
